<div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div>Mac help needed.</div><div><br></div><div>Seven years ago, my son gave me a Garmin Nuvi for Christmas from his first earnings as an intern. We stopped using it about four years ago when we upgraded our vehicle and didn't need an external GPS anymore. Today when cleaning my old minivan for my daughter to use in college (yeah she doesn't care it's a minivan), I figured I'd stick that ole Garmin on the dash just for old time sake. I thought I'd update the software on the darn thing since it's so old. I connected it to my daughter's Macbook so I could upgrade the maps software on it.<br></div><div><br></div><div>Turns out that in order to upgrade the app I first need to be on OS X version 10.11 or higher, which my daughter is not on because she apparently never felt the need to upgrade. [Yes, I know, shame on her!!] To cut a long story short, I've spent the last couple of hours trying to upgrade her OS from 10.10.5 to whatever the heck comes next and I've just not been able to do that. I can't upgrade to any new version of Mac OS X without first moving to 10.11 and I can't seem to find a way to do it. I can't use the App Store because I need 10.6.6 or greater. To the Mac experts out there, this probably isn't a big deal. To me, it's plain exasperating. Any help is much appreciated.</div><div><br></div><div><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_signature"><div dir="ltr"><div><div dir="ltr"><div><div dir="ltr"><div><div><div><div style="font-size:12.8px">Jai Vijayan<br></div><div style="font-size:12.8px"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div style="font-family:arial;font-size:small">P: 630 247 9770<br></div><div style="font-family:arial;font-size:small">LI: <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/jaivijayan" style="color:rgb(17,85,204)" target="_blank">https://www.linkedin.com/in/jaivijayan</a><br></div><div style="font-family:arial;font-size:small">Twitter: @jaivijayan</div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div><br></div></div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr">On Sat, Nov 10, 2018 at 11:11 PM Stephen Satchell <<a href="mailto:ipg@satchell.net">ipg@satchell.net</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex">On 11/10/2018 03:32 PM, Todd R. Funny you should say that. My sister, who runs her own business, had a<br>
iMac fail suddenly Saturday afternoon. Working away, then *nothing*.<br>
Power button doesn't work. Not a bathtub in sight...<br>
<br>
Took the poor thing to the Genius Bar in Reno. "Because we can't power<br>
it on, we can't run a diagnostic." So did they open the thing and take<br>
a quick gander? No. Why? "This is a 1981 iMac."<br>
<br>
So, to get her back on the air to meet deadlines this weekend, I<br>
suggested buying a new iMac and inserting the old drive into the new<br>
system. "No, we can't do that." Is there an external housing available<br>
for the drive? "No, we don't sell those here."<br>
<br>
So much for meeting deadlines.<br>
