          teaching, and educating people or we can pay for them to come
          back and live off the state or get released and commit more

                rel="noreferrer" target="_blank" moz-do-not-send="true">fairfaxcounty.gov/uas</a>.<br>

              There are 18,000+ law enforcement agencies in the country
              so it's <br>
              misleading to generalize about "the police"  or "law
              enforcement". <br>
              Fairfax cops I know are honest/honorable/motivated to do
              the right <br>
              thing. Over the years, policies have changed -- sometimes
              in response to <br>
              national trends, sometimes to community
              involvement/pressure, sometimes <br>
              to FCPD problems. There's pretty good transparency and
              responsiveness. <br>
              Fairfax (1200+ officers) isn't Mayberry or NYC (30,000+
              officers) -- <br>
              there's no reason NOT to talk to police here; in fact
              middle/high <br>
              schools all have School Resource Officers whose job is to
              TALK to kids <br>
              -- not arrest them.<br>
              <br>
              I'm not claiming that everywhere's as fortunate as Fairfax
              -- just <br>
              suggesting that all-inclusive advice about police can be
              misleading.<br>
