I sent a (polite, non-critical, "did you know") reply (just to the
sender.

Then I received a "souhaite rappeler le message" email (which, as Google 
Translate confirms [I remember enough French to have already figured it 
out], means "Wish to recall the message"]... which, for better or worse, 
my end of the email process doesn't support, as best I can tell...
