[Ipg-smz] Speaking of experimental film...

It is a real 911 call from a 17-year old who killed his mother and his
sister in Texas in 2012. His calm demeanor is morbid. The video is from an
amusement park and there's more to the 10.5-minute complete film than just
the swinging bears. The trailer contains both audio and video from the
film. I edited the full soundtrack for effect in the trailer just to get
some interesting bits and arrange them even more morbidly, which makes me
think that the trailer could be an experimental film on its own. The video
of the amusement park is a depiction of where this 17-year old should have
been--at an innocent playground, having fun rather than committing a double
murder of his family members. The title Landscape is from the fact that
this type of activity is becoming the landscape of our country--that is to
say, gun violence. He wanted to kill someone and he had access to a gun.
It's experimental because it's non-narrative but still tells a story. It's
not a documentary but just is what it is--a morbid scenario played out with
the backdrop of the alternative.

Experimental film can take a lot of different forms and a lot of them I
don't get either. Maya Deren had some good ones whereas Kevin Jacobs films
make me go, "meh".

You can see all of Maya Deren's films on YouTube. Meshes of the Afternoon
is cool. I'm going to spoof it with my own version titled, "Mensches of the
Morning" or "Mensches of the Early Evening" -- I haven't decided yet.

It seems I have a preference for experimental films made by women -- their
films are better--not just noise and images (Hans Richter) but it's a
matter of personal preference. Yoko Ono started as a performance artist and
experimental filmmaker.
