I could be handled the same way real estate lock boxes are handled. Everyone who has access has a unique key code, and access is tracked.

Honey pots could reduce box theft. Deliverypeople aren't allowed to leave stuff in mailboxes. Some are authorized to carry wireless terminals and get signatures, driving their own cars. Mine usually leave the stuff on my porch, within view of my desk. Amazon has tried to put lockers into stores so packages would be safe. 

 

But delivery is a huge societal change we're still accounting for.
