Hi everyone,
Happy Thanksgiving to you all.
You have no idea how much your friendship, advice, support and humor are
appreciated in my world all year round. I appreciate you all and am glad to
know and work with you all.
Well, maybe you do. :)
So as we all wind down to relax and enjoy Thanksgiving with friends and
family, I wanted to ask for your opinions.
For 10 years, since getting laid off from Computerworld in November 2008
just before Thanksgiving (isn't that always the way it happens?) I've been
planning to build my official TechManTalking website to highlight my work
and build a resource for my business.
I've been paying for the domain name on and off this whole time, lost it
once to a scalper who luckily agreed to release it so I could have it back
at a reasonable $14, and never seem to find the time to just do it.
Today, with other deadlines loom ing, I realized it just has to get
finished.
So I set up an account with hosting vendor Bluehost, got my domain name
back and started to look at Wordpress themes.
I already have a headache, :)
Can anyone recommend a good book or site to help me with this? I am not a
coder. I know the most elementary HTML, and I'll have to look it up because
it's been a while.
I'm trying to figure out how I will be able to link my stories from Channel
Futures, eWEEK and other sites to my own site so people will be able to
find them there and I can build up a repository.
Here's the paid theme I am considering...
https://demo.themegrill.com/colormag-pro-technology/
Here's a free theme I'm looking at as well...
https://superbthemes.com/demo/newspaperly/
There's too many choices and it is overwhelming.
I just want a nice, clean, easily readable site that lets me show off my
stories from other sites, is easily or automatically updateable, has
built-in SEO to help find and promote it and that lts me get started
easily.
If I start with a theme and learn it, can I switch it later when it all
makes more sense to me or does this early decision lock me in forever?
Now I remember why in 10 years I've never fininshed this project, but it is
happening by the end of 2018.
I need a beer and two Tylenol. :)
Thanks for any advice or sample sites you might share.
Best wishes and have a great holiday,
Todd :)
