Earlier today I tweeted this:

"Has there ever been a novel set entirely during a conference call?"

(You're never gonna believe this, but I was stuck on a conference call at
the time.)

Esther and others chimed in with their own riffs on this — "Can you see my
screen?" "I think you're on mute, David" etc. — and as they were doing
that, an actual idea for a novel formed in my mind. It has an everyman hero
wearing business casual and will operate in a vein of absurdist, mordant
humor.

So, if you please, share with me the tropes that spring to mind for you
when you think of conference calls. Bonus points for any specific hilarious
moments you've experienced.
