Nothing for writers has changed, Arnie, for hundreds of years. Writers, like most artists, have never had much job security, whether on staff or working as vendors/contractors.

Actually, that’s not true: What has changed is that the barriers to entry are incredibly low for writers to try to make a living through self-publishing. That doesn’t mean that most writers will be successful at it, but at least many can afford to try.

People do 30 mins research, find two quotes and become subject matter expert. Today's editors sit in their own basement, not out in the field and dictate what stories to be told; isolated and disconnected from the reality. Everyone wants an easy job so no surprise the industry is dying. Today' and real creators are emerging in new mediums like YouTube where they are more authentic, full of emotions and can connect to their readers and viewers.
