Ah, you young'uns... been done, very pre-IoT, e.g. John Romkey's Internet
Toaster (Interop ~1988 or ~1989), followed the next year by TGV and others
with the Internet Stereo, and other doohickeys, not to mention the rich
history of Internet of connected coffeemakers, vending machines, etc. So
long ago that the my (and other peoples') articles appeared in print. I
have 'em in my file cabinet.
The biggest challenge of doing it at Interop, IIRC, was that union food
rules meant they couldn't bring in a loaf of bread, just _one slice._ And
that was the year Cliff Stoll was there, hence the concerned cry, "Cliff,
don't eat the demo!"
