While true, I don't this, and some other aspects of this discussion, have
been completely fair,

a, While some may have been using Flickr for photo storage, I, and, I'm
pretty sure, many, perhaps most, have been using it for photo-sharing.

b, this isn't about 'Cloud.' It's about the reality that products,
services, sites, companies, and technologies come and go over time. or is
there somebody here still wanting to rely on Zip drives as their backup
solution? Or somebody would be complaining about how their 8 year old hard
drive with key backups had gone belly up. Etc. Or on using Prodigy,
Delphi, etc for Internet service, email, etc. Or using BeOS, DOS, Win 3.1,
5 1/4" floppies, dial-up, yadayada.

In terms of backup, the prevailing wisdom has been and remains, "do a
local and off-site physical media backup that you own, plus one (or more)
(cloud, etc) services." To bet on at no more than 2 out of 3 failing at
the same time.

I'd say that the story here is the more general, companies often don't
care enough about their users during the "sorry, service being
discontinued" phase, i.e., enough time to rescue/migrate, etc.
