[Ipg-smz] Why I love Apple?

Define “older person”. I know 30 year-olds who can’t cope with their phones, and 80 year-olds who do tech support for the kids. I cheerfully mock a colleague, a decade younger than me, who relies on me to help him with WiFi at conferences.

Their customer service is excellent. That's why I also use their stuff (although not exclusively) and recommend it to many other people. For pure end-users it's excellent. Their mobile platform has its issues but otherwise, very much the same recommendation. I would never give Android to an older person, it's far too complicated -- although I have given Chromebooks to a number of elderly. Other people want things that can be more easily customized or adapted. But its an excellent platform of products for 80 to 90 percent of the people out there in the consumer and content producer space. In the enterprise, not so much.

As someone who has been hardcore Desktop Linux user and Advocate, I am kind of loving Apple. People say Apple is not for professionals and its toys. But today I had an amazing experience with Apple and it was NOT about their hardware (BTW, Google Pixel costs as much as MacBook and can't do half of the stuff). So I moved from Adobe Premiere to FCPX and I had some issues. I work on a video on my MacBook Pro and save it as a project so I can revisit or make changes in future if needed. I have a Linux server for over 50TB where I store all my such files. However, when I bring the files back to my Mack to edit, the external plugins will show error. I did find a workaround (macOS being UNIX, everything is a file)....but I wanted a solution so I left a message to Apple and they called me back at 9 am. He went through the whole issue, we spend almost 45 minutes on the phone where he tried to solve the issue and it seems that the ext4/BTRF file system might be messing up with the bundled files and may break the structure. He gave great tips about best practices and so one. As a multimedia professional, my problem was solved over the phone. And they CALLED. Last time I had a hardware related issue and they fixed it and this time I had a software related problem and they solved it.
Just wanted to share this story. I am NOT an Apple fan or Google fan or Microsoft fan. I am just a user, and I would LOVE the company who will help me and *not* charge for it. More than anything, it's nice to see there is someone to get help from.
