I also tend to buy not-used computers. There is a store here in Reno
that sells lease returns, for about 30% of list. Desktops and laptops.
I have purchased laptops from the pawn shops here, too.
But then again...I hit on a huge sale at Costco on a Samsumg 54" curved
monitor. None of the computers at chez Satchell could drive the UHD at
any significant frame rate. So my option was to build a computer, or
something else.
So I did the unthinkable, bought a mid-range gaming computer from Best
Buy. It came with an AMD video card, which is excellent for CentOS.
When I got the 1 TB SSD, it worked better than expected. I'm still
tweaking it so I won't go blind, but it's really nice to have the screen
real estate of four 27" monitors, and without the ugly bezels.
Overkill? You bet. The thing is, I'm in the process of refactoring
about 12,000 lines of Python code, and being able to have six editing
sessions on screen at a time is really speeding things up. Not to
mention the LibreWriter screen so I can document as I go.
Happy birthday to me...
