I remain a big fan of Voice Typing within Google Docs.

To activate Voice Typing, choose it from the Tools menu of Google Docs. You need to be using Chrome browser, though.

The scope is confined to macOS, and I'm not in that world much these 
days, having moved to LinuxVille. 

Ken Hess' suggestion of fn fn will be a suggestion.
