...because my collaborator flaked out. So I kept my half of (smallish) 
advance and collaborator repaid the whole amount. Too bad the project 
failed, since it was the fourth contract I negotiated with McGraw-Hill 
(the other three books were printed) and by then I'd gotten good at it.
