Fellow Guilders,
I'll take charge of the In Memory page.
Would someone be so kind as to:
1) find the best Obit that we can cite for Robin Miller and the best
Obit we can find for Ross Greenberg? These guys are pioneers, irascible,
and need monuments on our hallowed pages. If you want to write it, I'll
accept that, too. No more than 300 words, please.
2) Decent photos are helpful, too. You find the link, I'll get the
permissions as required.
I will search for good URLs regarding prose for them, three at minimum
(suggestions entertained) for these individuals. None of us are going to
live forever, and many of us are just too humble to want to
self-glorify, but you'll need to be remembered. We're a largely older
group. By mentoring and memorializing, we can inspire younger people to
do the tough work, the long slog, the fuck-you-pay-me, and
immortalizations that younger journalists, writers, researchers, and a
technical press need to know.
I admire the many contributions this Guild has made both collectively,
and certainly as individuals. Writing and journalism is tough. Coffee
alone doesn't propel us. I watched and contributed as Ross wasted away
after being a pioneer. Robin, afflicted with diabetes and other
illnesses, battled them and came back from the brink several times to be
a vital part of the many organizations that were lucky enough to have
his energy, zeal, and insight.
These were everyday heroes, and they are us. Please take some time, and
I'll be happy to craft it together and hand the results to still another
beacon, David Gerwitz. We are many, we are diverse, we are strong, and
we value each other through this Guild.
Best,
Tom
