Honestly, I don't know why you think this is a ridiculous statement. A (bitcoin-style) blockchain is simply a ledger, containing user-supplied information and protected with a series of cryptographic puzzles. Technically speaking, the soap opera's quote is completely plausible. People have used blockchains to "cryptographically protect" arbitrary, user-supplied information since Bitcoin's earliest days.

Now, did the writers know what they were saying, or were just reaching for a buzzword? That's another discussion. In either case, they happened to get it right.
