[Ipg-smz] Which of your friends/family have you (relatively unexpectedly) gotten to quote for an article?

In the 1980s, while I was covering AT&T, my live-in girlfriend worked for Long Lines and I hung out with a bunch of Bell Labs folks, many of them Unix kernel jockeys. It made for a lot of uncomfortable moments with her colleagues. A few months ago, I needed to talk to a privacy expert, so I dialed up one of those friends -- Steve Bellovin, who's at Columbia now. smb, you may know, was a member of the core team on Usenet, and wrote the news Unix client. It was informative, but unfortunately not quotable.

    For a story many years ago about adaptive technology, I suggested the writer talk to a friend of mine, a photographer who mostly lost his sight, but managed to continue his trade with the right tools. He turned out to be a great interview.
