I wish! Upgrading their satellite hardware (possibly the dish, probably
receiver, etc.). Might even mean switching to a new satellite?

Wire? Whut's thet? Hello, Verizon? I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!! I do have a land
line, but I'm in a black hole (about a mile long) for cell service.

Last year, new people moved into the seasonal (hunting, that is) mobile
home maybe 1/8 mile north of me. No cell. He wanted to reconnect
Verizon's cable that was dangling from the pole RIGHT NEXT TO THE NEW
MOBILE HOME.

"Hello, Verizon, we want to reconnect the phone."

Verizon: "I'm sorry, sir, Verizon DOES NOT OFFER LAND LINE SERVICE ON
THAT ROAD (emphasis mine)."

Me to now bereft new neighbor: "I wonder what it is I've been using for
the last 40 years?" When we moved up here it was a party-line.

Welcome to monopoly land. People who do have wires have a choice between
Spectrum and -- uh -- Spectrum? Too few  subscribers (per MILE of road)
for hard wired service. My line goes out? I call Rodney's cell (field
worker) rather than try to navigate Verizon's automated customer service.

Welcome to the boonies.
