Funny you should use a comic book, er, "graphic novel" reference.
Consider the number of books, comics, television series, and movies that
use the plot that someone who is initially presented as a hero is
exposed in Act III as the villain of the piece.
I suggest that many people, once burned by the Steve Ballmer viewpoint,
are afraid that the "new" Microsoft will turn out to be a wolf in
sheep's clothing. That 'embrace' will be followed by "extend", then
"extinguish". "But, honey, just give me one more chance" rarely ends up
well in life.
Has the Microsoft culture changed that much? The optimists wil say
"yes", but those who have been hurt badly before will be more wary.
