[Ipg-smz] Can anybody recommend a good computer chair with good lumbar support?

Just throwing out there that we are all writers, content marketers, technology specialists, and people peripheral to those lines of work – not occupational therapists (OTs).

You really need the right chair/solution *for you*.

See an OT. (Which usually involves seeing a PT first, who will then give you the Rx/referral to an OT – but chances are that if you have the kind of pain/physical limitations that warrant OT intervention, you need PT too.) A good one. After talking to you about the kind of work you do, seeing what your work setup is like, and learning about YOU, that OT will be able to make recommendations. A really good one will work with a chair guy who will let you try out a couple of chairs before buying. (I got to demo a chair in my home office for a week before deciding it wasn’t right for me.)

That said -- $500 may be too small a budget. Sorry. While there are decent sub-$100 options out there (alas, the cheapie $50 “for now” economy recommendation my OT made for me I can’t seem to find at the moment), you’re probably looking at close to $1k for real ergonomic superiority combined with durability. $500 is a difficult budget to work with.

In that regard, mine cost about $1k (which includes a fabric option that I didn’t have to have but I wanted it because I liked the material and the color).

But I don’t want to recommend that you buy my chair. My chair might suck for you.

The real takeaway from this is that what’s right for me or for any other person replying to this may not be right for you. You work a particular way. You sit a particular way. You have particular pain/issues/limitations. You have a particular work setup. OTs deal with this all the time. We are not qualified to address your pain issues. Do your body a favor and see an OT.

Trust me. It’s WAY more important than any tech-spec analysis or benchmarking you’ll do to determine your next computer or smartphone purchase.
