My nephew is one of them.

When he got out of jail, he tried really hard to get a “real job” where he could earn an honest living. Few of those jobs paid better than minimum wage — and drug dealing was financially remunerative. The temptation to go back to it was irresistible, which is why he ended up back in jail for another trip.

He ended up flipping houses, initially with my brother, and now on his own. Really crappy houses in Providence, in neighborhoods that scare me. But I guess it’ a living.

Not everyone has what it takes to go into business for himself, though. So what are these folks supposed to do?
