I don't know the details, but the Wall Street Journal does seem to be
hiring. I don't see the reason they'd advertise jobs that don't exist. One
of my former colleagues at IDG News Service just was hired on there. As
others have said, I believe you have to be in New York or San Fransisco.
As for working for a publication when you disagree with the owner's
political beliefs, it would be really tough to be that pure these days. I
faced the same issue with a recent freelance gig in which the editorial
page differs significantly from my own political leanings. I discussed that
issue with the editors up front and was assured that the opinion page
leanings of the publication wouldn't impact my reporting, and so far it
hasn't.
