[Ipg-smz] Advice Needed: Cutting the Cord

There may be some confusion between DirecTV and what used to be called
DirecTV Now. It's now called AT&T TV Now. I've had Sling and AT&T Now.
AT&T Now includes DVR capability. It runs on FireTV. I have a plan that
is no longer available - it gives me most of the stuff offered on cable,
and very little of which we (my wife and I) actually watch. We're paying
$5 for HBO (and this enables us to also use HBO GO). The interface takes
a bit of learning to master. I beta tested a set top box, and it assigns
channel numbers to each source. The box is programmable, so I was able
to add Android apps.
Sling seems to be a bit easier to use, but my package doesn't include
local channels. It's also less expensive.
For those who can't get a good video signal for over the air
programming, there's Locast. Locast is a streaming service that streams
local channels - without adding its own ads - in selected markets. It's
available in Los Angeles, where I live, and actually offers a channel or
two that I can't get over the air. A problem with them is that, unless
you make a 'donation' to keep them running, you may get nags asking you
to donate. I haven't donated, so I don't know what will happen after I
do. FWIW - AT&T recently gave Locast $500k.
I haven't used YouTube TV, so I can't write about it.
Disney's new streaming service may be interesting - if a bit limited.
